Students at King University in the DMAD program, had the opportunity this semester to work with Paramount Bristol to create posters on a poster press in The Sign of the George Press at King University for the release of a documentary celebrating the 93rd Anniversary of the theater.

The process started with students meeting with our client to learn the scope of the project and ask questions clarifying questions. The students then visited and learned about the design limitations on a poster press process from the director of The Sign of the George Press at King University, David Winship. The students then designed a digital mockup using Adobe Illustrator with design constraints in mind and received feedback from the client during class presentations.

Finally, students made revisions based on the feedback they received from the client and one design was chosen by the client. King University DMAD student Brandan Harris's design was chosen and translated to the press using a combination of an inkjet printer and letterpress type with design elements available in the press.

The 2024 Spring Showcase will take place during Dogwood Weekend on Saturday, April 13th from 10 am - Noon in the Widener TV lounge in Maclellan Hall on King University's Bristol campus.

This year there will be prizes for the Audience Choice Award as well as the Juror's Selection Award which will be announced at 11:30 am.

“Help Portrait is an annual event at which stude

“Help Portrait is an annual event at which students from King University, King University Digital Media Art & Design program, along with the Art & Design Club, provide free family portraits for families in the community who might not otherwise be able to afford them. The families will receive a framed 5 x 7 inch print, a flash drive of images, and more.

This year the event will be held on Saturday, Nov 18 from 10 am – 4 pm on the top floor of the Bristol Public Library. We need volunteers to greet families, lead families through the process, and put together welcome bags. We will feed all the volunteers and you don’t have to be a DMAD major to volunteer and the event is approved for CCS credit.
